IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER FAILURE TO MONITOR

ESTE INFORME CONTIENE INFORMACIÓN IMPORTANTE ACERCA DE SU AGUA POTABLE. HAGA QUE ALGUIEN LO TRADUZCA PARA USTED, O HABLE CON ALGUIEN QUE LO ENTIENDA.

Monitoring Requirements Not Met for PFOS & PFOA

Our water system violated one or more drinking water standards over the past year. Even though these were not emergencies, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we did to correct these situations.

We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets health standards. During 4th quarter of 2024 we failed to monitor for the following contaminants and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of our drinking water during that time.

What should I do?

There is nothing you need to do at this time.

The table below lists the contaminant(s) we did not properly test for during the last year, the required sampling frequency, how many samples we took, when samples should have been taken, and the date on which corrective action samples were (or will be) taken.

What happened? What was done? When will it be resolved?

During the fourth quarter of 2024, the Upper Southampton Municipal Authority (USMA) completed its required PFAS and PFOA sampling. However, the laboratory that processed these samples was unable to properly prepare them for analysis. As a result, the accuracy of the results could not be validated, and the data could not be reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP).

Although USMA collected the required samples on schedule, the laboratory’s preparation error has resulted in a formal Tier 3 Public Notice for “Failure to Monitor.” It is important for residents to understand that USMA fulfilled all required sample collection activities; the issue occurred during laboratory handling and preparation. Upon learning of the issue, USMA collected additional samples prior to the end of the fourth quarter however, the lab encountered the same preparation issues. USMA was directed by PA DEP to collect another sample in fourth quarter of 2025 to comply with Pennsylvania's PFAS Rule of initial monitoring requirements. USMA collected samples on 10/27/2025 and 10/28/2025. Those samples were submitted to the lab and appropriately prepared and analyzed. Those results were in compliance and below the maximum contaminant level (MCL).

USMA has taken corrective actions to prevent similar issues in the future, and remains committed to meeting all monitoring requirements and ensuring the continued quality and safety of the community’s drinking water.

Protecting public health and maintaining confidence in the water supply remains USMA’s highest priority.
